Dr Weston Price and his contributions to Holistic Dentistry

As a fellow holistic dental practitioner, I have a deep appreciation for the pioneering work of Dr. Weston A. Price. He was a prominent dentist and researcher in the early 20th century who made significant contributions to the field of holistic dentistry.

Dr. Price was born in Canada in 1870 and received his dental degree from the University of Michigan in 1893. After practicing dentistry for several years, he became interested in the relationship between nutrition and dental health. In the 1920s and 1930s, he traveled around the world studying traditional diets and their impact on dental and overall health.

One of Dr. Price's most significant contributions to holistic dentistry was his research on the relationship between diet and dental health. He discovered that people who ate traditional diets high in nutrient-dense foods had much better dental health than those who ate modern processed foods. Specifically, he found that traditional diets rich in fat-soluble vitamins A, D, and K2 were crucial for healthy teeth and gums.

Dr. Price also studied the connection between root canals and chronic health problems. He believed that the bacteria trapped in root canals could contribute to a host of health issues, including heart disease, arthritis, and autoimmune disorders. His research on this topic is still highly relevant today, and many holistic dentists take a more cautious approach when it comes to root canal procedures.

In addition to his research, Dr. Price was also a passionate advocate for holistic dentistry. He believed that the health of the mouth was intimately connected to the health of the whole body, and he encouraged dentists to take a more holistic approach to patient care.

Today, many holistic dentists follow in Dr. Price's footsteps, emphasising the importance of a nutrient-dense diet, avoiding harmful dental practices like mercury fillings and root canals, and treating patients as whole individuals rather than just sets of teeth.

In conclusion, Weston Price was a remarkable individual whose contributions to holistic dentistry continue to influence the field today. His research on the relationship between diet, dental health, and overall health has had a lasting impact, and his advocacy for a more holistic approach to dentistry is as relevant now as it was a century ago. As a holistic dental practitioner, I am grateful for his pioneering work, and I strive to continue his legacy by providing the highest quality care to my patients.
