Why Seeking a Second Opinion After Implant Surgery Can Be Challenging

When you come to me for a second opinion after having dental implant surgery done elsewhere — especially when things haven’t gone as planned — it is important to understand that correcting someone else's work is often far more complex than performing the procedure correctly from the start.
In many of these cases, the implant may have been incorrectly placed. I’ve seen situations where implants are angled poorly, positioned too close to nerves or sinuses, or even where fragments of the original tooth were inadvertently left behind. These mistakes can complicate not just your recovery but also the future success of any corrective work.
Implant dentistry is not a treatment to undergo in a rush or out of desperation during an emergency. It requires thoughtful planning, proper diagnostics, and surgical expertise. Choosing a practitioner with a solid reputation and the right qualifications is not just advisable — it's essential.
When complications do occur and patients come to me for corrective procedures, the situation often requires removing the failed implant, treating any associated infection, allowing for healing, and then planning a completely new treatment pathway. This journey can be longer, more uncomfortable, and more costly than if things had been done right the first time.
That said, I’ve been privileged to help many patients across Southeast Asia who come to us seeking remedial care after experiencing suboptimal implant outcomes elsewhere. While it's not an easy path, our priority is always to manage your case with honesty, expertise, and care — doing everything we can to restore not just your smile, but your confidence and comfort as well.
